Millenials, Technology and the Courts
Please join us for this exciting presentation! Several AFCC-IL members have seen this presentation at recent AFCC conferences in Milwaukee and Washington, DC and are excited to be able to bring it to Chicago.
Millennials are the largest generation in American history. This presentation will focus on understanding generational trends, and on how domestic relations/family law professionals and courts can change to successfully meet the needs of this demographic. The focus will be on the use of technology, especially Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) to address Parenting Plan development and dispute resolution. The legal framework for this will also be covered.
Julia F. Weber, Esq., MSW, will present information on assisting separated, divorced, and never-married parents resolve disputes online, explore the role of the court in making orders or referrals for ODR, and discuss ways courts are supporting use of early intervention tools to reduce conflict and support child well-being.
Specific examples from current online tools will be provided including coParenter, a platform specifically designed to help parents with communication and conflict resolution. It was developed by Jonathan Verk, Eric Weiss, and Hon. Sherrill Ellsworth (ret), the Past Presiding Judge of Riverside County, in California, a Judicial Educator, and former Family Law Judge with extensive experience mediating parenting plans and family law disputes virtually and in person.
NOTE: There will also be an opportunity to see a brief demo of coParenter after the presentation. Additionally, Ms. Weber and her colleague, Natalie Rosenblatt, are interested in meeting with attorneys, mediators, judges, evaluators, parent coordinators, and court administrators while they are visiting Chicago to provide information about coParenter, which is currently free and offering professionals tools to assist clients/litigants tools to assist in developing parenting plans and resolving issues. Please contact Ms. Rosenblatt at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Although this is a complimentary event, please RSVP by August 17, 2018.
