The Future of Family Justice: International Innovations

Attend and learn about and discuss innovative and interesting research, ideas, policies, practices, programs, and procedures from the 2019 Annual AFCC Conference. We'll also cover the challenges faced by professionals in the family law system including access to justice, intractable family conflict, the best use of technology, listening to the voice of the child, and ever shrinking budgets to support the work that we do. Presenters will include attorneys, mental health professionals, and Judges, including Dr. Sol Rappaport, Judge Karen Bowes, Jean Conde, Carl Marcyan, Karen Covy and others who attended the 2019 Annual AFCC Conference.

About the 2019 Annual AFCC Conference hosted in Toronto, Canada:

Twenty-first century families live in a time of rapid change, economic uncertainty, unprecedented diversity in household living arrangements, and a justice system that, all too often, struggles to meet the needs of those it is designed to serve. Numerous innovative programs and processes have emerged but are often unknown to those who need them the most. This conference has convened the best of our global partners to share pioneering efforts taking place world-wide.

    Trauma in the Divorce Context:

Legal, Physical, and Psychological Ramifications For Clients and Professionals

Join us for our day-long annual conference as we discuss the legal, physical, and psychological ramifications of trauma. We will explore how to identify trauma in ourselves and in our clients and hear from experts in the field regarding how to handle trauma once it has been identified. We will hear about best practices in our court systems for avoiding the re-traumatization of our clients during the litigation process.

Keynote Speaker: The Honorable Kim Berkeley Clark

Judge Clark received the William H. Rehnquist Award from the National Center for State Courts for her work in transforming the way children and families who enter the court system are treated by creating a “trauma-informed” courthouse. She was presented this award by U.S. Supreme Court Justice John G. Roberts Jr.
